Conservation and Repairs
Conservation and restoration projects have long been a part of smithy activities. In 1993, with funding from Schering-Plough and major tool and equipment donations from S. Fargotstein and Sons, the Museum opened “Chestnut,” a state of the art metals conservation facility.
Conservation and restoration projects for private and public clients include the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Pink Palace Museum, the Children's Museum of Memphis and the Wonders International Cultural Series.
From restoring antique sculpture to sharpening paring knives, our staff of trained metalworkers is on hand to make your metalwork as good as new.
We work in brass, bronze, silver, gold, pewter, pot metal, spelter, white metal, cast iron, steel, tin, zinc, lead, copper, nickel, stainless steel, aluminum, and wrought iron. Among other services, we offer:
- welding of bronze, steel, aluminum, and cast iron
- soldering
- casting of missing parts
- dent removal and bend straightening
- patina matching and faux-finishing (chemical or paint)
- polishing and waxing
