Repair & Conservation

Conservation and restoration projects have long been a part of smithy activities.  In 1993, with funding from Schering-Plough and major tool and equipment donations from S. Fargotstein and Sons, the Museum opened “Chestnut,” a state of the art metals conservation facility.  Lab projects have included restoration of animal and child sculptures for the Memphis Zoo and Aquarium and creating a sundial used for the film “The Client,” based on a John Grisham book.

The Metal Museum was featured on the Antiques Road Show for its work in metal repair and conservation.

Conservation and restoration projects for private and public clients include the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Pink Palace Museum, the Children's Museum of Memphis and the Wonders International Cultural Series.
