For this two-day camp, students will learn about the Foundry and Blacksmith shop through demonstrations, educational games, and hands-on projects.* Pre-registration is required; seating is limited. Registration closes on July 7.
Day 1: Bug Catching Kits
Mini metalsmiths will become Copper Scouts as they create bug catching kits with recyclable materials. We will explore ethical metalsmithing, recycling, and learn about insect life on the grounds of the museum.
Once completed Copper Scouts will earn their Insect Wings badge.
Day 2: Nature Bunting
Mini Copper Scouts will explore the grounds of the museum and collect items from nature to inspire their work. Scouts will learn about the types of trees and plants that surround the museum grounds, and view pieces in the Museum’s collection that are influenced by nature. Scouts will use the embossing technique and the cyanotype process to create bunting inspired by their adventures at the Museum.
Once completed scouts will earn their Nature Collector badge.
* While the majority of the camp will take place indoors in the Learning Space, please note that demonstrations and some additional activities will be out doors. Participants should be dressed in appropriately in cool clothing with a high cotton content that can get dirty.
Cancellations made before July 1, 2020, will be eligible for a refund, minus a 5% cancellation fee. Cancellations after this date and no-show campers will not be eligible for a refund.
