METAL SCOUTS: NATURE + CRAFT

SUMMER CAMP DATES: JUL. 28 – 31, 2020

Join us for Metal Scouts: Nature + Craft in Summer 2020! Campers will explore the grounds of the Museum and make artwork inspired by nature and the outdoors. View works of art in the permanent collection and learn metalworking techniques such as embossing, fold forming, casting, and more!

MINIS (Ages 3 – 6)

JUL. 28 – 29 | 9AM – 12PM

Mini scouts will create bug catching kits from recycled materials during their first day of classes. On day two, scouts will use the embossing technique and the cyanotype process to create bunting inspired by their adventures at the Museum.

TEEN (Ages 15 – 18)

JUL. 30 – 31 | 9AM – 12PM

On the first day, teen campers will spend time in the foundry learning about casting. They will create their own campfire monsters and have cast them permanently in aluminum. On day two, campers will learn about forging in the Smithy. They will leave with their own steel skewers for the campfire!

JUNIOR (Ages 7 – 10)

JUL. 28 – 29 | 1 – 4PM

Junior camp scouts will explore the Museum grounds for natural elements to replicate in pewter. After casting pewter charms, they will learn about the history of the grounds and the Mississippi River. They will create copper boats using embossing and fold forming techniques.

YOUNG (Ages 11 – 14)

JUL. 30 – 31 | 9AM – 12PM

Young campers will spend their first day in the smithy, learning how to forge steel and craft Campfire Skewers. On the second day, they will spend time in the foundry learning about casting. Campers will create their own campfire monster and have them cast them aluminum.
