For this two-day camp, students will learn about the Foundry and Blacksmith shop through demonstrations, educational games, and hands-on projects.* Pre-registration is required; seating is limited. Registration closes on July 7.
Day 1: Cast Pewter Nature Charms
Junior Artisans will become Brass Scouts as they explore the museum grounds for natural elements to replicate in pewter. Scouts will learn about casting, build a flask, create impressions, and pour molten pewter into their molds to create charms.
Once completed scouts will earn their Master Caster badge.
Day 2: Copper Float Boats
Brass Scouts will learn about the history of the Museum grounds and it’s relationship with the Mississippi River. Inspired by this history students will create copper boats using the embossing and fold forming technique.
Once completed scouts will earn their River Badge.
* While the majority of the camp will take place indoors in the Learning Space, please note that demonstrations and some additional activities will be out doors. Participants should be dressed in appropriately in cool clothing with a high cotton content that can get dirty.
Cancellations made before July 1, 2020, will be eligible for a refund, minus a 5% cancellation fee. Cancellations after this date and no-show campers will not be eligible for a refund.
If camp is canceled by the Metal Museum, campers will receive a full refund.
