INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Metal Museum offers artist internships in blacksmithing, foundry work, and repair/restoration. These positions offer artists invaluable experiential learning that is meant to expand their professional and practical skills. Responsibilities include the production of commissioned works, assistance with educational programming, participation in national conferences, on-site demonstrations, interaction with museum visitors, and shop maintenance. Internships range in length, but typically take advantage of a student's semester time frame (8-12 weeks).

FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP

Program Length


Applications for internship programs are received on a rolling basis. Part-time interns are expected to work a minimum of 98 hours over a period of 8-16 weeks.




Program Details


  • Access to studio facilities, pending approval of shop managers
  • Work space shared with employees, interns, and volunteers
  • Facilities access: Basic woodshop; design lab; foundry; blacksmith shop; repair and restoration lab
  • Wi-Fi in designated spaces
  • Design and production of Museum commissioned projects
  • Assistance with educational programs, including classes, school, and summer programs
  • On-site demonstrations
  • Interaction with museum visitors
  • Assistance during events, including set up, break down, and/or cleaning after
  • Shop maintenance and cleaning




Eligibility


  • Working towards a BFA in Metalworking, Sculpture, or comparable training
  • Must have some exposure to skills necessary to participate in the applicant's area of interest
  • Able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
  • Must be able to speak basic English

  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Letter of intent, outlining your specific interest in apprenticing at the Metal Museum and how program participation will affect your practice
  • The names and email addresses of three personal or professional references; please note, we do not want letters of reference
  • At least 20 images of recent work, including the submission of an image list with title, date, size, and media
