FIRE 2026 Sand Mold Carving Workshop

As part of the Metal Museum’s Foundry Invitational and River Exhibition (F.I.R.E.) in Memphis, Gerry Masse, Founding Director of Sculpture Trails Outdoor Museum, will lead a hands-on sand mold carving workshop. With over 32 years of experience making sand molds for iron casting, Gerry will guide participants through core carving, advanced carving techniques, multi-part mold construction, and innovative patternless mold-making methods. This workshop is designed to give artists the tools and confidence to create contemporary works in cast iron, exploring the versatility and expressive power of the sand molding process.
General Conference registration is included with the Multipart Mold Workshop registration. ($400 includes workshop fee and $50 material waiver.)
Items for students to bring (if available)
- Personal PPE- gloves, safety glasses, face shield, hearing protection, cotton clothing, long sleeve shirt, dust mask or respirator.
- Shop vac, if available
- Any personal mold-making tools (the Museum will have essential tools)
The 10th annual Foundry Invitational & River Exhibition (F.I.R.E.) is a conference for metal casting artists that takes place in the Metal Museum's Foundry. The conference and workshops are great opportunities to network with other artists, learn more about mold making, and take part in an iron pour.
Cancellation Policy
To receive a refund, participants must notify the Museum that they will not be attending no less than 30 days prior to the first day of class or conference. A 5% cancellation fee will be charged for all refunds. A refund will not be given for cancellations made after that time. The registration may be transferred to another individual. The transfer request needs to be done in writing and emailed. Transfers can be done up to 7 days before the first day of class. After that time, no transfers are permitted.
Participants will not be refunded or issued credit for a no call/no show. If the class is cancelled by the Metal Museum, the student may either transfer to another class of equal value or receive a full refund.
